Open Door Mission
So remember those THREE DAYS we spent making blankets?! We finally got to DONATE them!!! Open Door Mission on Warren Street (their new location - you've got to check it out!!) did what they do best and welcomed us with open arms to accept our donation, give us a tour of their new facility, and put us to WORK! We learned so much.
Each holiday season, Open Door offers their guests a holiday "shop" where each person receives tickets to go shopping for loved ones, which is where our blankets will hopefully find a home!
At their new facility, Open Door Mission will be offering different classes to help educate people on how to get out of poverty and write their future story/set goals. They will offer a "day room" where guests can get their laundry done or use computers, a computer lab that can be used for job searching, and eventually, a FIFTY bed shelter! According to Kim, President and CEO, the driving force of poverty is relationships, so that will be their focus: to build relationships and offer services. They have such a vision for sustainability, teaching life-long skills to support their guests long term.
After we presented our blankets and toured the facility, we helped sort and organize many many clothes that had been donated to Open Door Mission. We were so impressed with the services offered and plan to be back again soon:)
